Long sleeve boat neck dress – wearing Japanese clothing in the UK as we transition from summer to autumn
Hi, I’m Chie from Zak Zakka. I know how hard it is to buy from an unknown brand, especially when it’s a Japanese clothing brand. I’ve come to get my hands on a few pieces of Japanese clothes that will get me from late summer to early autumn, I hope this review will help better understand what they’re like.
Material
The fabric is quite lightweight and unlined, but not too thin that you can see through your legs. With 80% cotton and 20% linen, it doesn’t feel too much like a summer item but still retains that lovely linen feel.
Size
I am 5ft3(160cm)and a size 8 on the smaller size, and this dress felt roomy but not too large to swamp me. The sleeves were a for me, so I folded them and crunched them up. For me, the dress came down to below my knees, but for my daughter who is 5 ft 7 (170cm) it hit just above the knees. She usually wears a size 10, and she could comfortably wear it too, and there wasn’t anywhere that was restricting her movement or that seemed tight, including the sleeves.
Design
The cut of the dress is quite unique, as you might be able to see in the photo. It has a cocoon type shape, making it flowy when you walk. It also gives more space to move around freely.
Easy to coordinate
I can see myself wearing a turtleneck T shirt or a lightweight jumper underneath when it gets cooler, as the dress is a crew neck design, maybe a stripe turtleneck or a coloured turtle neck top might be cute too.
I’ve been wearing the dress over leggings, but it also goes well with black jeans, blue jeans, probably any coloured bottom. It goes well with sandals, white trainers and hi-top trainers, I can pair it with ankle boots later in the year too.
Wrapping Up
I had the dress on all day, been driving and sitting on the sofa for quite a long time, but it didn’t crease as much as I worried it might. All in all, it’s a comfortable, low maintenance piece of clothing that will see me through late summer into autumn, possibly into early winter.
Oh, and did I tell you it has pockets? You can never go wrong with a dress with pockets!!
I hope this has helped you decide or become interested in making this cute yet versatile dress yours!
