Unveiling the Top Affordable Japanese Skincare Products of the First Half of 2023
In the ever-evolving world of cosmetics, finding high-quality products that won’t break the bank can be a treasure hunt in itself. The best way to find the right product is to get information from proper sources, not for product promotion. There are numbers of beauticians in Japan who disseminate useful information, but the most reliable is Dr. Tomori Arata, a famous Japanese dermatologist with over 800,000 followers on her channel. Not only is she a doctor with expertise, but she is also a persuasive practitioner of beauty herself. The following is a translation from her YouTube channel:
I would like to introduce the best affordable cosmetics chosen from Tomori Arata’s point of view for the first half of 2023.
I am introducing the ones that I have actually used and think they are good.
I have sebaceous skin and even at the age of 45 I still get pimples and am more concerned about sebum than dryness, so please take that into consideration.
Here, I would like to define “affordable” or “cheap & cheerful” as anything under £20.
Sana Nameraka Honpo Soy Milk Moisture Foam Face Wash
The face wash category is “Sana Nameraka Honpo Soy Milk Moisture Foam Face Wash”
Nameraka Honpo launched this face wash after the renewal in March. It is soap-based, so I thought it would be more for those who have normal skin and want a good refreshing wash rather than for those with sensitive skin, but this face wash contains a very good cleaning agent (decyl lucoside), which removes polymers and sebum, but does not remove important skin moisturising components such as cellularised lipids and ceramides. It has a good balance. So, it does not remove too much, and leaves the skin moisturized enough.
And, what makes this face wash so excellent is the density of the foam! Facial cleansing tends to be a scrubbing process, doesn’t it?
This face wash comes with a good lather that doesn't slough off. I think that alone does it justice.
I want to avoid friction when washing my face, but I want to wash my T-zone thoroughly. I chose this as the best face wash because it comes out in a firm lather. I can wash areas with melasma or other skin concerns softly, and remove sebum by washing my T-zone thoroughly in circular motion. It was quite useful for the price, so I chose it as the best face wash.
One by Kose Pore Clear Oil
Next in the make-up remover category is “One by Kose Pore Clear Oil.”
It is quite easy to use in everyday life as it does not require double cleansing, is OK for eyelash extensions and can be used with wet hands.
My biggest enemy is sebum. I really hate sebum clogging up my pores and causing acne. I think the patent on this product was that it contains keratoprotectant dissolving water mixed with the oil. It removes not only make-up but also keratin plugs and sebum together, plus the strength of this product is that it is inexpensive.
I have eyelash extensions done and like to remove my make-up in the bath. This product is easy to use in my daily life and meets my problems with sebum shine, so I'm already on my second bottle.
The scent of the product is not my taste, but in my opinion, it's the best make-up remover.
Carte HD Balanced Care Lotion
This lotion was quite suitable for me, as my face shines with sebum, while I'm starting to get a bit dry because of my age.
Carte HD is famous for its moisturising properties because it contains heparin analogues. This product came out in spring this year and it's for people who are concerned about dryness and shine. It contains heparin analogues, glycyrrhizic acid, which reduces inflammation, vitamin B6, which slightly controls the acidity of sebum, N-octanoyl glycine, which inhibit acne bacteria, and a substance called zea mays extract, which reduce the production of sebum, oxidation and inflammation. These are good for people with oily skin.
Lotion for oily skin often contains alcohol, but not in this product. The products from Carte HD are generally made for sensitive skin. By adding sorbitol fermented polysaccharide liquid to the amino acid-based pace and oil, the formula is designed to penetrate the skin without stickiness, while sustaining moisture from inside.
It is a product that satisfies people with oily skin, those who have too much sebum and are sensitive to it, or those who have sebaceous skin and also concerns about dryness.
Quality 1st Derma Laser ULTHERA R
The serum category is “Quality 1st Derma Laser ULTHERA R.”
This product is super price-slashing. The base is galactomyces culture fluid with niacinamide and a retinol derivative. I don't think there is that much retinol in it, but there is 25% niacinamide. To be honest, I don't think it needs to be that highly concentrated, but niacinamide whitens, prevents rough skin and improves wrinkles, but what is nice for oily skin is that it suppresses excess sebum.
While whitening and taking care of sagging skin, it also suppresses sebum, so you get a high beauty effect without feeling sticky. In addition, it's cheap! In terms of budget skincare products, I don't think there was a product that could beat this one.
